About Katie Kerick

Katie Kerick (Sabol) was born in Lehighton, PA. She attended Lehighton Area High School, where she graduated in 2010. Following high school, Katie first attended Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a Bachelor's in Music Performance in Saxophone. She completed graduate school at the University of Maryland, College Park, receiving her Master's in Music Performance in Saxophone in 2016.        

Katie has always had a passion for music, starting to play the saxophone at age 10. Throughout her grade school years, she was a member of the concert band, jazz band, county band, district band, saxophone quartet, pit orchestra, and musical. Carrying her love of music into undergrad at Mansfield University, Katie was a member of many activities, including The Spirit and the Pride of Pennsylvania Marching Band, Mountie Sound Machine, Jazz Lab Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Pit Orchestra, Student Composers Society, and Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Sorority.

In graduate school at the University of Maryland, she continued the trend, joining the following musical activities: Wind Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Repertoire Orchestra, Symphony Orchestra, other various chamber ensembles, and Capital City Symphony Orchestra. Her involvement in these activities over the years also allowed her to perform across the United States and in multiple countries, such as England, France, and Scotland.         

Throughout her higher education, Katie taught and helped develop the Mansfield University Summer Saxophone Camp from 2012 to 2016. She wrote, directed, and rehearsed arrangements each summer in both small & large ensemble settings. Her experience arranging started when she was still a student at Mansfield, taking advantage of the saxophone studio to test out different musical arrangements she put together. Katie kept these various arrangements, from saxophone ensembles and concert band to marching band, jazz bands, and many more. Katie is known to arrange music for custom groups, including MU Summer Saxophone Camp, Lehighton Area High School Jazz Band, Susquehanna Township Marching Band, Susquehanna Township Concert Band, and many other ensembles at the high school & university level. This includes an original marching band show with the hit show “Stranger Things” as the theme for Susquehanna Township High School.       

After graduating from graduate school, Katie moved to Las Vegas and lived there for 3 years. There, she had the opportunity to play baritone sax at various venues and events. Katie also played bass clarinet in Desert Winds professional wind ensemble. In her spare time, Katie has taught private lessons for 10+ years at various levels. She is fluent in every type of saxophone and also plays clarinet, bass clarinet, piano, and sings. 

Katie currently lives in Harrisburg, PA, with husband Graham and their daughters Emma & Evelyn. She enjoys playing in different groups, Greater Harrisburg Concert Band, No Last Call, Corsair Blue Jazz Orchestra, & pit orchestras for musicals.
